More Excitement South of the BorderWhat Border? Pretty much every border as the next country south is Antarctica! The excitement I am speaking of is the just launched Atlantic 57 from Alwoplast, S.A., of Valdivia, Chile. Not only is this the second Atlantic 57 launched by Alwoplast in the past year but there are three more A57's in various stages of construction inside their extensive building sheds. Christened "NOGAL" by Dutch owners Ron and Hester Verweij she illustrates the craftsmanship and care of construction that Alwoplast is known for. After a short shake down cruise southward, Nogal is already enroute to Easter Island and points beyond. The interior woodwork is largely South American Walnut, locally known as "nogal". Using book matched satin varnished veneers with solid trim contrasted against white painted surfaces Ron and Hester achieved a visually elegant interior without excessive complexity. Carbon fiber mast, booms and forward cross beam were all furnished by King
Composites, Buenos Aires. |
