Juniper 2

The fundamental design requirement here was to get the "most bang for the buck". She is long in order to provide comfort sailing in the ocean, wide for stability in extreme conditions, but simple in construction, accommodation and systems in order to keep the cost under control. I still own the original Juniper and after 17 years I can truly say that I know the boat well. She's an excellent performer, and has a very comfortable motion in waves. Some experienced sailors that have sailed passages in her claim Juniper to be the most comfortable boat that have ever been aboard. Well suited to long term cruising for a couple or small family. Fast enough to win races, she won the original 110 mile New England Solo/Twin and has placed well in other events.

Two different rigs have been used, an unstayed cat-ketch rig and a more powerful stayed ketch rig with rotating spars. Each has its advantages, but in a nutshell the stayed rigs can be more powerful although they are more expensive and require more effort to sail.
