Chris White Race Results
Yacht racing is not my thing. With very few exceptions every boat I have designed has been intended to cruise not race. These days a competitive race boat, by definition, is fragile, over canvassed and under equipped for cruising. Typically it also has a very short life span due to excessively light construction scantlings.
That said, I enjoy boats that sail well so most of my designs move along smartly, even when loaded for cruising. Occasional racing is a great way to sharpen your sailing skills and really find out how your boat does when compared to others. Over the years owners of my designs have had some noteworthy results a few of which are posted here.
44-R Trimaran, "FALCOR" 2nd 2006 Round Long Island Race
Steve Gross, owner of the Explorer 44-R trimaran called FALCOR, was second to finish the 2006 Round Long Island Race. Way to go Steve!

Out of the 58 boat fleet FALCOR was only beaten by the 77' radical canting keel monohull sailed by the US Merchant Marine Academy team. The third yacht to finish was 5 hours behind FALCOR in the 190 mile long race.
Built by Lone Star Multihulls, FALCOR is a modified Explorer 44 trimaran. Weight was reduced by eliminating some of the interior furnishings, substituting an outboard motor for the standard diesel and using more carbon fiber in the hull and deck structure. She also has a carbon rotating mast and racing sails.

Atlantic 42 "Sunshine" takes second place in the 2005 Caribbean 1500 Cup(Norfolk, VA to Tortola, BVI)
"The Caribbean 1500 occurred last week. We were 4th over the line behind a Newick 48' racing trimaran and 45 minutes behind two 51 ft cats. We were first on adjusted time but I think a 41ft cat came in a day later and edged us out of first. We made the decision to leave the Code Zero home and it would have been no contest if we had that sail in the light air occurring during the first two days. The boat sailed beautifully." Tom Robinson
